American violinist Joan Field died on this day in 1988 – aged 73

American violinist Joan Field died on this day in 1988 – aged 73.

A student of Albert Spalding, Jacques Thibaud and George Enescu, Ms Field concertized extensively throughout Europe and the United States during the 1950s and 1960s - and premiered a number of important works including: the first recording of Charles Ives' 1st Violin Sonata and the American debut of Prokofiev's 2nd Violin Sonata.

For much of her career she performed on the 1698 Ex-Joachim Stradivarius.
