Applications Open for the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Resident Fellowship

The one-year fellowship is open to early-career orchestral players with a background that has been historically underrepresented in the orchestral environment

Applications are now open for the Resident Fellowship Program run by the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO). These fellowships create an opportunity for up to two early-career orchestral players from marginalized communities to undertake a one-year appointment as a musician in the BSO.

The Resident Fellows will perform with the BSO during 20 weeks of the orchestra's 2024/25 Symphony, Pops, and Tanglewood seasons. In addition, they will play in chamber music groups with the musicians of the orchestra and will undertake touring where possible.

As well as a weekly salary, the Fellows will receive an accommodation stipend, a stipend for audition travel, comprehensive insurance coverage, and a stipend for private lessons.

Applications are open to violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists who are from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in symphony orchestras. Applicants should submit some biographical information, a resume, some essay responses, and the pre-screening audition excerpts.

A portion of the applicants will then be invited to the live auditions at Symphony Hall in Boston on April 22, 2024.

You can find out more about the Fellowship, here. The deadline for applications is March 18, 2024.

"By creating more opportunities for musicians whose backgrounds reflect the beautiful diversity of our city and country and valuing their contributions to our world of classical music, we enrich the lives of everyone associated with the Boston Symphony Orchestra," said Andris Nelsons, the BSO's Music Director.
