VC Young Artist Brannon Cho Awarded Meadowmount's $25,000 Galamian Prize

The Meadowmount School of Music has announced 24-year-old cellist, VC Young Artist Brannon Cho as the recipient of the 2019 Ivan Galamian Prize

The Meadowmount School of Music, in Upstate New York, has this week announced 24-year-old cello virtuoso, VC Young Artist Brannon Cho as the recipient of the 2019 Ivan Galamian Prize.

Brannon will received US $25,000 - to assist with his career development.

"On the occasion of the Meadowmount School of Music’s 75th anniversary, it is the great pleasure of the Board of Directors to award the Ivan Galamian Prize to cellist Brannon Cho ..." Meadowmount Board member and previous recipient, violinist James Ehnes has this week told the Violin Channel.

"Brannon is an exceptional young artist who exemplifies the musical ideals of Meadowmount and its founder Ivan Galamian ... we wish him all the best in the continuation of his burgeoning career," he has said.

A graduate of Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music and the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Hans Jørgen Jensen and Laurence Lesser, and current student of Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy, Brannon is a former major prize winner at the Naumburg, Cassadó, Johansen and Queen Elisabeth International Cello Competitions – and in October of last year was awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Paulo International Cello Competition – in Helsinki, Finland.
