Cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca Signs with Avanti Arts

The French cellist joins the UK artist management’s roster for worldwide representation

In 2020, Christian-Pierre La Marca signed a multi-album recording contract with Naïve Classique records, and recently released his first recording on the label titled “Wonderful World.”

His last CD “Cello 36,” was named as Gramophone’s 2021 Best Concept Album, and his upcoming disc “Legacy,” will be released in Spring 2022 and will showcase classical cello concerti.

A graduate of the Paris Conservatoire, Christian-Pierre studied with Jean-Marie Gamard and Philippe Muller. Other mentors included Frans Helmerson, Steven Isserlis, Mstislav Rostropovich, Heinrich Schiff, Anner Bylsma, and Gary Hoffman.

He was a prize winner of the Osaka and Frankfurt International Cello Competitions and is currently Joint Artistic Director of France’s Forez Festival. He also serves as a Larsen Strings Official Artist, plus ambassador for Gewa and Henle Verlag Library

Appearing as a soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Sinfonia Varsovia, Brussels Philharmonic, and Les Siècles, Christian-Pierre is also an advocate of contemporary music collaborating with composers Jörg Widmann, Pēteris Vasks, and György Kurtág.

“Excited to announce another signing to the Avanti Arts roster: French cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca,” wrote Avanti Arts on Facebook. “Christian-Pierre’s curiosity has enabled him to carve out a wide-reaching repertoire delving across eras and musical genres.”

Described by Gramophone as “a master of his instrument…and a musician of lyrical elegance,” Christian-Pierre currently plays on an 1856 Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume cello and 1825 Jacob Eury cello bow — on loan from France’s Fondation de la Vocation.

At Avanti Arts, he will join artists such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Andreas Staier, Jordi Savall, and the Carducci String Quartet, Consone Quartet, and Quatuor Van Kuijk.
