First Part of Geneva Cello Competition 2021 To Go Virtual
Selected candidates will submit videos for the first round of the competition, to be streamed virtually in mid-September
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first round of the 2021 Geneva International Music Competition will be held online.
In order to participate at all in this competition, applicants must apply no later than April 30, 2021.
The preliminary round will be held at the end of May and the beginning of June. Thirty candidates from both cello and oboe disciplines will be selected to participate in the online portion of the competition.
Applicants selected to participate will have until August 15 to submit their recitals, which will then be broadcasted in mid-September.
Currently, the semi-final and final rounds are planned to be held live in Geneva from October 23-29, 2021.
Eight cellists and eight oboists will be chosen to participate in the semi-finals. Those who make it to the finals will have the opportunity to perform at the beautiful Victoria Hall with the Orchestra de la Suisse Romande.
The cello jury includes Ivan Monighetti, Thomas Demenga, Michaela Fukačová, Ophélie Gaillard, Qin Li-Wei, and Shauna Rolston.
The jury for the oboe competition is comprised of Alexei Ogrintchouk, Nora Cismondi, Diana Doherty, Gordon Hunt, Eugene Izotov, Yiu Song Lam, and Marie-Luise Modersohn.
