London's Guildhall School Announces Finalists for its Gold Medal Prize

London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama announced the three finalists for its most sought-after prize, the Gold Medal. Established in 1915, the prize alternates each year between singers and instrumentalists. The finalists vie for the medal in a live concert,  where they perform a concerto of their choice alongside the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra to a sold-out Barbican Hall.

The 2022 finalists are William Bracken, who will play Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto, Kryštof Kohout, who has chosen the Berg Violin Concerto, and Stephanie Tang, who has opted for Brahms's First Piano Concerto.

The jury will be comprised of the editor of the BBC New Generation Artists Scheme, Emma Bloxham; artistic director and chief conductor of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Jessica Cottis; artistic and executive director of Wigmore Hall, John Gilhooly CBE; Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of Spain’s RTVE Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, Adrian Leaper; and Interim Principal of Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Jonathan Vaughan.

The most recent winner of the Gold Medal was 23-year-old baritone Tom Mole, who recently made his Glyndebourne debut. Other notable past winners also include William Primrose (1922), Jacqueline du Pré (1960), Patricia Rozario (1979), Tasmin Little (1986), and Bryn Terfel (1989).
