Kirill Troussov's New Album, "Bruch Scottish Fantasy"

Released on Orchid Classics, the album features Troussov performing with Germany’s Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Christian Mandeal

 

As part of Orchid Classics’ Live series, German violinist and pedagogue Kirill Troussov is exploring the full range of violin concerto repertoire. His recording of Max Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy is the second installment of the series.

For this album, Troussov performs with the orchestra of his hometown, Germany’s Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra, and Romanian conductor Christian Mandeal

Titled Kirill Troussov Live, the series will see more album releases across the next few years. In partnership with Orchid, the recordings are released as streaming-only EPs. The first installment of the series saw Troussov record Mendelssohn’s E minor Violin Concerto Op. 64Upcoming albums include his recording of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Orchestra of Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste and the late Nikša Bareza, to be released in May 2023.

Troussov performs on the 1702 “Brodsky” Stradivari violin — on which Adolph Brodsky performed the world premiere of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in 1881.

Born in St. Petersburg in 1982, Troussov began his violin studies at age four at the Rimsky-Korsakov-Conservatory and made his debut at age six. His mentors included Zakhar Bron, Christoph Poppen, Igor Oistrakh, and Yehudi Menuhin.

In 2009, he gained worldwide recognition after stepping in for Gidon Kremer performing live and on Radio France with the Orchestre National de France and Daniele Gatti at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.

Troussov has performed at venues including the Tonhalle Zürich, Berliner Philharmonie, Concertgebouw, Palais des Beaux Arts Brüssel, Beijin’s NCPA, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, and Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Musica. Additionally, he often gives masterclasses around Europe, Hong Kong, and the U.S. 

With chamber music collaborators including Yuja Wang, Daniel Hope, Joshua Bell, Gautier und Renaud Capucon, Yuri Bashmet, Mischa Maisky, and Julia Fischer, Troussov also performs as a duo with his sister, pianist Alexandra Troussova, with whom he has recorded highly acclaimed albums. 

He has served as a jury member to international violin competitions, such as the Schoenfeld International String Competition and Ysaÿe International Music Competition. Since 2021, he has held the position of chairman and artistic director of the Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition and is also the artistic director of the Carl Flesch Academy.

His accolades include first prizes at the Yehudi Menuhin, Oleg Kagan, and the Wienawski violin competitions; the Davidoff-Prize at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival; Verbier Festival’s Reuters-Scholarship; and the Europäische Kulturpreis Pro-Europa award.
