Madrid’s Teatro Real Renews Contracts
The renewals of the Artistic and Music Director's contracts are part of Teatro Real's new five-year strategic plan
The board of the Teatro Real in Madrid has renewed Artistic Director Joan Matabosch's contract until 2026, and Music Director Ivon Bolton, until July 2025.
Additionally, the board re-elected its General Director, Ignacio García-Belenguer, until December 2026.
As part of the new plan, the theater has pledged to utilize EU funds to modernize and digitalize. Other objectives include the development of more international activity and the implementation of projects like the My Opera Player, which aims to reach younger audiences and promote more social participation.
The board also approved a homage to composers Antón García Abril, Cristóbal Halffter, and Luis de Pablo — all important figures in Spanish music and whose works have marked important milestones for the Teatro Real.
“Divinas palabras” by García Abril was the first world premiere at the newly renovated Teatro Real, “Don Quijote” by Halffter was a work commissioned for the theater, and "El abrecartas" by De Pablo will have its world premiere in February 2022.
