VC Rising Star María Dueñas Awarded 1st Prize at Russia's Yankelevich Competition
15-year-old VC Rising Star María Dueñas has been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Yankelevich International Violin Competition – in Omsk, Russia
15-year-old VC Rising Star María Dueñas from Spain has today been awarded 1st prize in the senior division of the 2018 Yankelevich International Violin Competition – in Omsk, Russia.
2nd prize was awarded to 24 year old Fedor Beznosikov from Russia.
Joint 3rd prizes were awarded to: 25-year-old Eimi Wakui from Japan and 25-year-old Yun Tang from China.
A student of this year’s jury member Boris Kuschnir, María is a former 1st and Grand Prix winner at the Leonid Kogan and Georg Philipp Telemann International Violin Competitions – and in September of last year was awarded 1st prize at the 2017 Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians, in China.
She will receive a fine violin by Italian instrument maker Eugenio Degani – valued at 2,485,000 rubles (US $39,000).
Joint 1st prizes in the junior division were awarded to: 13-year-old Varvara Agayeva from Russia and 13-year-old Wong Pui Ying from China.
Joint 2nd prizes in the junior division were awarded to: 10-year-old Sofia Koltakova from Russia and 10-year-old Stefania Pospekhina from Russia.
Joint 3rd prizes in the junior division were awarded to: 15-year-old Elizaveta Novikova from Russia and 13-year-old Daria Manza from Russia.
This year's jury comprised: Vladimir Spivakov, Pierre Amoyal, Elisabetta Garetti, Sergei Dogadin, Boris Kuschnir and Aleksandr Mualev.
Previous 1st prize winners include VC Young Artists Sergei Dogadin and Fedor Rudin.
