The NDR Radiophilharmonie Postpones Brahms Festival to 2023

Originally set for February 2022, the Brahms Festival was postponed by about one year to March 2023

Hoping to offer a similar, enriching experience as the Beethoven Festival during the Fall of 2019, the Brahms Festival is unable to provide that under the current conditions of the pandemic and its restrictions concerning concert operations.

As a substitute for 2022 festival's cancellation, some of its soloists will appear in NDR's large broadcasting hall in Hanover in February — including soprano Susanne Bernhard and violinists Christian Tetzlaff and Midori.

Bernhard will perform Richard Strauss' "Four Last Songs," Christian Tetzlaff will perform Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 2, and Midori will perform Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major.

"We will now use the opportunity in February to perform important Russian symphonies and concerts by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov," Andrew Manze, chief conductor of the NDR Radiophilharmonie said. "A repertoire that I have never worked on with the Radiophilharmonie before."
