Candidates Announced at Stuttgart's Inaugural International Violin Competition

The competition will be held in Stuttgart, Germany from July 19-24, 2021 — with all rounds streamed LIVE here on The Violin Channel and available for playback

 

The 2021 Stuttgart International Violin Competition announced its 21 opening-round candidates.

Hosted by the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and the Guadagnini Foundation, the competition is open to international violinists 28 years of age and younger.

This year’s 21 candidates were selected from 266 high-quality international applicants from 43 different countries. 

 

The 2021 candidates are:

  • Alexander Won-Ho Kim (28, South Korea)

  • Anna Agafia Egholm (25, Denmark)

  • Anna Göckel (29, France)

  • Benjamin Günst (18, Germany)

  • Charlotte Thiele (21, Germany)

  • Clarissa Bevilacqua (19, United States)

  • Elias David Moncado (20, Germany)

  • Elli Choi (19, United States)

  • Emma Meinrenken (22, Canada)

  • Eva Rabchevska (24, Ukraine)

  • Felicitas Schiffner (23, Germany)

  • Gyehee Kim (27, South Korea)

  • Hana Chang (18, United States)

  • Ho-Hsuan Feng (26, Taiwan)

  • Larissa Cidlinsky (26, Germany)

  • Maxim Tzekov (20, Austria)

  • Mayu Tomotaki (25, Japan)

  • Oganes Arustamov (29, Russia)

  • Victoria Wong (23, Australia)

  • Yeyeong Jin (18, South Korea)

  • Yunfei Bai (28, China)

 

The first prize winner will receive €25,000, a number of important performance engagements, and the loan of a 1746 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin.

"The Guadagnini Foundation and the Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts are very much looking forward to welcoming our international violinists to Stuttgart this July," President of the Stuttgart University of Music and host of the inaugural Stuttgart International Violin Competition, Dr. Regula Rapp told The Violin Channel.

"I can assure everyone, that the 24 young violinists can expect to be judged impartially, in a fair and transparent way. Fairness and transparency are our absolute priority," she said.

The 2021 jury is set to comprise: Ingolf Turban (President), Harald Eggebrecht, Rudolf Koelman, Natalia Prishepenko, Josef Rissin, Christian Sikorski, and VC Artist Tobias Feldmann.

"The goal with the competition is to support young, highly talented string players on their way to an international career," Markus Klein, from the Guadagnini Foundation has said.

"Our fundamental mission is to offer these 24 young violinists an ideal platform for a large-scale, high-performance competition so to help attract international attention for their careers through live streams and digital networking," he has said.
