OUT NOW | VC Young Artist Kevin Zhu's "The Dvořák Album"

Released on Sony Classical, the album also features Jan Vogler, Juho Pohjonen, Matthew Lipman, Chad Hoopes, and Tiffany Poon

 

VC Young Artist Kevin Zhu recently released an album of chamber music works by Antonin Dvořák, titled The Dvořák Album.

Alongside colleagues Matthew Lipman (viola), Jan Vogler (cello), and Juho Pohjonen (piano), Zhu performs Dvořák's dramatic and vibrant Piano Quartet No. 2.

Zhu and Vogler are then joined by violinist Chad Hoopes for the Scherzo of Dvořák's Terzetto.

Vogler and Pohjonen also perform a cello-piano arrangement of the famous tune "Songs My Mother Taught Me," from Dvořák's Gypsy Songs. Rounding out the album is Dvořák's Piano Trio No. 4 "Dumky," which features pianist Tiffany Poon alongside Hoopes and Vogler.

A student of Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin at The Juilliard School, Kevin gained worldwide attention, aged just 11, after claiming first Prize in the Junior Division of the 2012 Menuhin Competition. He was also awarded 1st prize at the 55th Paganini International Violin Competition, in Genoa, Italy, aged just 17.

Kevin is a proud recipient of a prestigious Kovner Fellowship from The Juilliard School as well as an Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Salon De Virtuosi Career Grant.

He currently performs on a 1722 "Lord Wandsworth" Stradivarius on generous loan from the Ryuji Ueno Foundation and the Rare Violins In Consortium.
