Prizewinners Announced at Italy's Postacchini International Violin Competition
11-year-old Sophia Fang of Singapore won the grand prize
The Postacchini International Violin Competition, which takes place each year in Fermo, Italy, recently announced the young violinists who have won prizes at the 30th edition. Singaporean violinist Sophia Fang, who is just 11 years old, was named the overall winner.
The competition is run across four age categories which span from age 8 right through to age 35.
There was no first place winner in Category D (22-35), and Korean violinists Lee So-Young and Kim Jimin were awarded second and third place respectively.
First place was also not awarded in Category C (17-21); second place went to the Italian Burriesci Manuel, while Chinese violinist Jiang Yixuan took third, and the Slovenian Logar Sophia received a grant.
In Category B (12-16), Peng Donyue of China took first place, Ma Panxi (also of China) took second, and the Indonesian-Australian violinist Suparman Carine came third, with Son Jiwoo of Korea winning a grant.
The overall winner, Sophia Fang, also won Category A (8-11), and was followed by Ma Ling-Xi (USA) and Kojongian Valerie (Singapore). In this category, Pososhko Mykola of Ukraine received a student grant.
The jury comprised Rafael Gintoli (chair), Anthony Berner, Eva Bindere, Alessandro Cappone, Luca Falasca, Kun Hu, and Yuri Zhislin.
