Russian composer Alexander Glazunov died on this day in 1936 - aged 70.
His signature works include ballets ‘The Seasons’ and ‘Raymonda’, his 4th, 5th and 6th Symphonies, the ‘Polonaise’ from ‘Les Sylphides’ - and his Violin and Saxophone Concertos.
It is legend his death announcement came as a great shock to the Russian public - having been considered old-fashioned in his time, there was a wide assumption he had died many years prior.
