Violinist Emily Davis Named as Concertmaster of Norway's Stavanger Symphony

Davis previously served as the Associate Leader of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Violinist Emily Davis has left her position in the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to facilitate a move to Norway, where she will lead the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.

She has served in a number of leadership roles both in the UK and in Norway, including as Principal First Violin of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and as Associate Concertmaster of the Bergen Philharmonic. She also directs large chamber ensembles while playing the violin, and is the founder of the new Scottish group Thirteen North, alongside Catriona Price.

Davis has also had extensive solo appearances, including in Arvo Pärt’s Fratres with conductor Vasily Petrenko at the Pärnu Festival in Estonia, Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires at the Bergen International Festival, the Cuban premiere of Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, Szymanowski’s Concerto No. 2 with the Ålesund Symphony Orchestra (Norway), and both Prokofiev’s Concerto No.1 and the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra and the Outcry Ensemble in London.

"I am leaving my wonderful RSNO family to join the brilliant Stavanger Symphony in Norway as their new concertmaster," Davis wrote on social media. "I can only say how much I have loved being with the RSNO, and the impact it has had on me and pay tribute to my completely lovely first violin section. I will miss you all SO much."
