Violinist Tai Murray Appointed to Yale School of Music Faculty

The American violinist will join Connecticut’s Yale School of Music this fall alongside newly appointed VC Artist Augustin Hadelich

Murray will serve as a full-time assistant professor, teaching applied violin and coaching chamber music.

Holding artist diplomas from Indiana University and The Julliard School, Murray is known for showcasing new music, focusing on works by people of color. She received the 2012 Sphinx Medal of Excellence, which the Sphinx Organization bestows to “extraordinary Black and Latinx musicians.”

A 2004 winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Murray was named a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist and has been a member of Chamber Music Society II at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Yale School of Music Dean Robert Blocker referred to Murray as “a violinist of international acclaim.”

“Like many of our performance faculty, she will remain active as a concert artist both in the United States and abroad,” he added.

Murray went to Instagram, sharing the news of her appointment, stating that she is ecstatic to be joining the Yale School of Music Faculty, toting the hashtag #ProfessorTai.
