VC YOUNG ARTIST | Kevin Zhu — “Absolute Virtuosity, Almost Blinding in its Incredible Purity”

20-year-old American violinist Kevin Zhu is captivating audiences around the world with his incredible technical skill and virtuosic flare

 

A student of Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin at The Juilliard School, Kevin gained worldwide attention, aged just 11, after claiming 1st Prize in the Junior Division of the 2012 Menuhin Competition. He was also awarded 1st prize at the 55th Paganini International Violin Competition, in Genoa, Italy, aged just 17.

His recent performances include concerto appearances with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, and China Philharmonic Orchestra. In the 2021/22 season, Kevin will debut with the Polish Baltic Philharmonic, as well as perform a multi-city recital tour in Italy, which includes his recent performance with Paganini's "il Cannone" violin at the 2021 Paganini Genova Festival. He will also be making debuts in Miami, Dresden, Madrid, and is embarking on a project to perform Paganini's complete 24 Caprices in one concert.

Kevin is a proud recipient of a prestigious Kovner Fellowship from The Juilliard School as well as an Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Salon De Virtuosi Career Grant.

He currently performs on a 1722 "Lord Wandsworth" Stradivarius on generous loan from the Ryuji Ueno Foundation and the Rare Violins In Consortium.

He recently performed in the opening series of the Violin Channel Vanguard Concerts Series.
