Applications Open for Violin Duet Composition Competition
Applications are now open for the 4th Progressive Classical Music Award - a composition prize initiated in an effort to expand the violin duet repertoire
German violin duo, The Twiolins, has this week announced that applications are now open for the 4th Progressive Classical Music Award - a composition prize initiated by the ensemble in an effort to expand the violin duet repertoire.
The duo, comprising brother and sister Marie-Luise and Chistoph Dingler, are inviting international composers to submit violin duets up to 5 minutes in length - with the 1st prize winner to receive €5000 plus the opportunity for the piece to be professionally recorded in an upcoming album release.
"We want you to compose new music for two violins that will get under the skin and sweep audiences off their feet ..." Marie-Luise has told The Violin Channel.
"There is no limit to your imagination and the style does not matter ... the playing technique should be challenging, or unconventional ... with new effects ... nice melodies, extreme sounds or hot rhythms ... just let your imagination run wild," she has said.
Hosted in 2009, 2012 and 2015, this year's jury will comprise violinists Julian Rachlin and Aleksey Igudesman and composer Benedikt Byrdern - plus a public audience vote.
Applications to be received by the 5th of July, 2019.
